Troy Bayliss looks sure to wrap up the World Superbike Championship at Imola tomorrow, after securing pole position by more than half a second. The Ducati rider needs just a 4th place to win the championship, regardless of how other riders finish.
Honda's James Toseland, who has been rejuvinated in the last couple of races, took 2nd place on the grid, and may give Bayliss a run for his money in the race.
Andrew Pitt took 3rd, continuing a good run of form for the Australian Yamaha rider.
Troy Corser's Suzuki rounds out the front row. He will need a good start if he is not to surrender his number 1 plate with a whimper, amid rumours that Suzuki won't renew his contract now that they have the big name of Max Biaggi signed up for 2007.
Imola is a twisty but fast circuit, that always produces great racing. When Superbike riders encounter a track that's difficult to pass on, they usually just slam their bike past the guy in front anyway. Tomorrow should be interesting.
